First of all, thank you for being here!
Nyrelle was born a long time before its official launch in 2020. Actually, you could even say that it all started before I was born. Yes, really! Allow me to explain.
My father was a goldsmith who spent many, many years mastering the trade. He started out in the industry when he was only a teenager and worked his way up to open his own retail store. There, he sold both his own and his friends' creations, which they'd make for him to support his business.
My first job in high school was — you guessed it! — at my father's jewellery store. I watched him and his staff take great care of their customers, which he was very passionate about. Jewellery is always an emotional purchase; whether it's a gift for a friend or a ring for a wedding proposal, buying jewellery is a big deal! From him, I learned a lot about helping people make an educated purchase and have them feel good about what they bought. Looking back, working at my father's store was the best thing that I could have done; it inspired me to continue in his footsteps.
To gain more experience in the industry, I then applied for a job at a world-famous jewellery brand (the one with the blue boxes). Working there further opened my eyes to the possibilities of what a brand can be when people truly love the designs and shopping experience there.
During my first weeks at the job, I remember being so surprised at just how busy the store was... every single day. But that wasn't the only thing that struck me; I was also shocked at how much their jewellery cost. I realised that my father's jewellery was of similar quality (and I know I wasn't just thinking that because I'm his son!), and yet, he could sell his pieces at a much more affordable price simply because he did a lot himself.
The idea for what I wanted my own brand to become grew as the years passed. Through it all, I've felt lucky and grateful for all things I've learnt from my parents about the jewellery industry and running my own business. One of the most important things they told me is to work with good people who share your values and drive, people who are willing to stick with what you set out to do, even when times are tough.
In 2020, I was finally able to make my dream of launching my own brand a reality. I chose the name 'Nyrelle', which means 'new beginnings' in Greek. I thought this name was perfect for what we are trying to do: shaking up the jewellery industry by selling fairly and transparently produced pieces directly to those who care about people and the planet. In short, you and our growing community of #ConsciousCollectors.
When it comes to making our pieces, however, we're a little less disruptive. We only use traditional fine jewellery techniques that notable brands worldwide have used for centuries because we care about quality. Since day one, we've been working with skilled craftsmen who put a lot of time and effort into ensuring that every single piece of jewellery is perfect.
2020 wasn't exactly the easiest year to start a new brand (to say the very least!), but here we are, a little over one year down the line. We're growing, evolving and giving back more than ever... and it's all thanks to you. So again — because I really can't say it enough — thank you very much for supporting us!
We are looking forward to sharing more about all things jewellery, sustainability, empowerment, lifestyle and much more through our new online magazine with you.
Enjoy!
